Here are my notes from the meeting on Monday. Feel free to revise:
In the future, we will try Mondays at lunch for NWREF planning meetings.
Jenna has compiled a list of upcoming events focused on renewable energy in our area - if we travel in the next few months and are able to attend these events, we might be able to recruit presenters, vendors, etc. (especially the John Day Festival - time to book is now - our festival was inspired by it)
By the end of March, each committee will have a meeting, a plan, and a timeline
We need to pick our date and location so that we can commit to committees
If we have the festival in June we won't have as much time and we won't have public school kids in session nor Whitman students around to volunteer, but the Water and Environmental Center would be available to us.
If we have the festival in September (tentatively the 3rd week), the Water Center might not be as available because WWCC would be in session (no camping, for instance) and WWU students would not be here, but we would have longer to plan (we would also have to start advertising to schools before school is out since we wouldn't have much time once schools starts again)
Another possibility is to look for other sites (closing off streets near Farmer's Market, etc.)
If we do have the NWREF at the Water Center while the Farmer's Market is in session, we could have a booth at the market advertising and the bus would be a great shuttle.
Perhaps it would be better to pick the month we'd like it to be in the future (maybe May?) and plan for next year?
The events committee will look into the date and location of the NWREF. (Maps may be important depending on where we are located.)
Keynote speaker ideas posted on blog and new names suggested (Chad Kruger, Shepard's Grain).
The Weekender might be a good model for us in terms of sessions and workshops.
What is "Weekender"?
